What a day.
Laurel has been struggling with a sinus infection for the past month. After the first course of antibiotics (Omnicef), it seemned as if she had not improved. So we did another course. That's 28 full days of antibiotics, with the kid to whom it is terrible to give medicine. She won't allow anything to be administered to her. You'd think Alan and I could manage a 15-month-old, but we just ended up with antibiotic solution all over our faces and in our eyes. It's pretty hard to force someone -- even a small someone -- to swallow a full teaspoon of something against her will.
So we had to mix it with a little bit of milk and make her drink it "all by her own," Meggie would've said. So headstrong!
But after all the disguising of medicine, she's no better. The doctor's verdict is that the bug was resistant to Omnicef. Further, she has two infected ears, so we're on to a new antibiotic and a consult with our family ENT.
These girls of ours have sinus issues! And we're lucky that we have them in the private health care system. Because they're symptomless wonders. Laurel had no fever, no drainage from her ears. She was just grumpy and therefore not herself. When I called the on-base clinic at Yokota, listing the same symptoms for Meggie, they pretty much laughed at me and offered me an appointment in three weeks. But our pediatrician, in addition to having the luxury of limiting her patient load, trusts our judgment.
So I called the pediatrician this morning and got Laurel in this afternoon. Yay! She has an ENT consultation on Christmas Eve morning. Will keep you posted.

As always you make us long for the cold far North of Alaska. The kiddos don't stay toddlers for long. Enjoy your time with them.
All our love and holiday wishes.
